I am taking on Kidney Care UK's Marathon March
This year, I’m stepping up for the Marathon March in support of Kidney Care UK, the leading patient support charity for people living with kidney disease. Millions of people in the UK are affected, and too many face the journey alone. Kidney Care UK is there to make sure they don’t have to.
I’m walking 26.2 miles to help raise funds for vital services, from counselling and patient grants to expert advice and advocacy. Your donation will help ensure no one has to face kidney disease without support.
This may not seem like a huge distance however I am only 4 weeks post Op from donating a kidney for my nan, this is going to be a challenge.
This charity not only provides advice and support to renal patients but it also provides advice and support to potential/living donors. Without this charity I would not have known the road I was going down on my journey of becoming a live donor.
Please give what you can and cheer me on as I take on this challenge!

My motivation
Thursday 26th FebAll my life my nan has suffered with her kidneys, being diagnosed with kidney failure, I knew from a very young age one day she will need a kidney. And I knew I wanted to give her one, even way back then. Years ago she started her dialysis journey. Back and forth to the hospital, many constant side effects, the biggest one being chained to where she can go and what she was capable of doing. She is the strongest woman I know, continuing to work (though sometimes that resulted in me getting a call saying she's been blue lighted to hospital, as a nurse you would think she would know better🙄) , she still went out and enjoyed life even though that came with restrictions of her illness.
3 years ago I started the process of becoming a living kidney donor. It's been 3 long hard, mentally taxing emotional years of testing waiting and hoping. It came with life changes, weight loss, and quitting smoking.
We found out early on that I wouldn't be giving directly to my nan and we entered the pooled scheme in January. But I think that is even better as not only am I giving my nan the chance of a better kidney with better prospects. I'm giving mine to another in need that's going through the same struggles as my nan and the wider family it has impacted. 4 weeks ago I had the privilege of becoming a live kidney donor so that my nan and 1 other could receive the gift of a new kidney, a new chance of life. A new sence of freedom
